Evolving technical societies to meet generational challenges

Mittwoch, 01.10.2003

Abstract...

Many technical societies have been subjected to a confluence of major
dislocations in the past years due to a number of intersecting
megatrends, including: the growth of the Internet; the advent of "open
source" publishing; and the decline of volunteerism. At the same time,
we are faced with a cyclical economic downturn in segments of the
technology sector. This talk with discuss these major trends and suggest
approaches which technical societies can take to prosper in spite of
them, using the IEEE Computer Society as an example.
